Defra compliant pet microchip databases in the UK

There are 15 Defra compliant pet microchip databases in the UK. They work by “talking” to each other. If you search one you’re searching them all. You can read more about how they work HERE.

In this article we lay out the differences between the pet microchip databases. These databases can be used to register dogs, cats and any other pet. (Apart from horses they have a separate database which can be found HERE.)

At the end of the article you can find a handy image and downloadable PDF on all the microchip databases, their price and the main added features.

The Defra compliant microchip databases

MyPet

We charge £1.99 to register your pet’s microchip. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. Our added benefits are:

  • If your pet’s microchip is ever searched we’ll send you an email
  • Added lost pet features
  • Free app available on IOS and Android to store all your pet’s information, reminders and has some awesome lost MyPet features.
  • Access to offers and discounts

Animal Microchips

Animal Microchips charge £19.95 to register your pet’s microchip. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. They don’t offer any additional benefits.

Animal Tracker

Animal Tracker charges £14.00 to register your pet’s microchip. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. The added benefits are:

  • Discount codes
  • Added lost pet features

Chipworks

Chip works charge £19.95. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. The added benefits are:

  • Free collar tag
  • 1 years free subscription to Vetline

Identibase

Identibase charges £30.00 per year. You can change your details as many times as you need to as long as you’re paying the annual charge. The added benefits are:

  • Access to exclusive offers and discounts.

Microchip Central

Microchip Central charges £32.40. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. The added benefits are:

  • Downloadable lost pet posters
  • Free pet tag
  • Notification if your pet’s microchip is searched

MicroDogID

MicroDogID doesn’t take registrations. They are specific to Greyhounds.

National Veterinary Data Service

You can’y register your pet’s microchip here. This service is only for Veterinary clinics. Our suggestion would be to ensure your pet is registered by you. This helps ensure they have the most up to date information and direct contact details.

Pet Chip Register

There’s very little information on what Pet chip register do. They don’t have any prices listed not an obvious way to register your pet.

Pet Identity UK

Pet Identity UK charges £20.00 per year. You can change your details as many times as you need to as long as you’re paying the annual charge. The added benefits are:

  • Free smart collar tag
  • Added lost pet features

Petlog

Petlog charges £17.00. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. The added benefits are:

  • Added lost pet features

Petscanner

Petscanner charges £2.99. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. They also charge £11.88 per year for their premium features. The added benefits are:

  • Free IOS and Android app
  • Added lost pet features (Premium feature)
  • Notification if your pet’s microchip is searched (Premium feature)

ProtectedPet

ProtectedPet charges £24.99. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. The added benefits are:

SmartTrace

Smart trace charge £19.95. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to. They don’t have any added benefits.

UK PETtrac MicroChip Database

Pettrac charges £16.95. This is a one off charge for your pet. You can change your details as many times as you need to.
